Layered
Cuts
Layered cuts refers to a group
of hairstyles that can be worn at a variety of lengths.
Layering can be done in several ways—sometimes layered cuts
have to top layers shorter, other layered cuts have longer
layers on top and shorter ones on the bottom. Each type of
style has different results, but usually it seems that layered
cuts give the hair more movement, more body and plenty of
flexibility with styling options. Many layered cuts work well
when styled down, wrapped into an updo, worn with a headband,
or even pulled back into a standard ponytail.
Below: Layered cuts can be added to
almost any hairstyle, short or long; the telltale signs of a
layered cut are to see some areas of hair longer than
others.

Whether they love short or
long hair styles, many of today’s hottest celebrities opt for
layered cuts. Lisa Rinna wears a short and spiky yet soft
layered haircut, while Tori Spelling and Sara Paxton choose
long, beautiful layers that give their hair fabulous movement
and body.
Layered cuts are styled by
taking small sections of the hair and cutting them in different
lengths. Some hairdressers use a razor to make the cuts, giving
a bit more body to the ends. Other hair stylists use more
straight cuts with scissors and many different layers to create
some waves and curls around the ends.
